Here Comes the Bride

Summer is typically wedding season and this summer was no exception for me.  I missed TWO weddings due to having a baby! But of course I still like to send our congratulations to the happy couple.  Today I am sharing a wedding set… a card and a matching box.

Wedding-set

This set is made with the Country Boutique collection from Fancy Pants and both the card and box were cut on the Silhouette.

The card cut was super intricate but I love the end result! The “B” is the new couple’s initial.

The dress box is the perfect size to store a gift card.  I fussy cut the flowers from patterned paper and added a bias tape sash to match the card. So pretty!

Did You Get My Message?

Last week was Back to School week at the Pink Paislee blog and I gave a little nod to the older students with this sophisticated version of the oh-so-necessary dorm door message board.

Chalkboard

I upgraded the plain old plastic, white, wipe-able board by painting the Pink Paislee Mistables Wood Shadowbox Frame with chalkboard paint and embellishing it with London Market.

I would have so loved to have this by my door!  The chalkboard paint allows regular chalk to be used and it wipes off with any dry cloth.

The paper flower was cut with my Silhouette, the soft grey flower is misted Mistables Fuzzy Stickers that have been layered, and the fabric flowers are a long piece of Mistables muslin scalloped trim that I sprayed and then glittered.  I also glittered the birdcage using an ultra thin glue pen.

I painted the outside of the frame with regular acrylic pink paint and went over all the edges with white.  Then I added a layer of clear crackle paint.

Any girl with this by her door would get instant style points in my book.  She would be the envy of her floor.  It’s always nice to send our college kids off with something from home that is personal and reminds them to be an individual in a place where it is easy to feel like one of the masses.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Heavy Lifting

Last week I kicked off the first of the “Layout Lifts” over on the Fancy Pants blog.  I used this fun page from Piradee Talvanna:

It struck me as simple but so very fun. I loved the dimensional pennants and the bright colors of Summer Soul.

My layout is a pretty close lift, design wise. I used Time for Spring and some neutrals from Country Boutique and created a more masculine page.

I chose to stitch around each of my flags and keep them flat. I exchanged the filter paper flower for a more masculine accordion circle and switched up the title placement a bit. But ... there is no mistaking that this is a scraplift! My black and white photo looked great with the cool greys from Country Boutique and I love how the colors from Time for Spring pop.

I used bits and pieces of chipboard from other lines as well. So many of the recent Fancy Pants Designs collections can be mixed and matched to get exactly the look you need.
Thanks to Piradee for the inspiration here. Like sketches, lifts can really get your mojo flowing. The end result can be very close to the original or look absolutely nothing like it by the time you are done, but it is a jumping off point either way.
